Copyediting & Illustration All in One

Copyediting

Anyone can use spellchecker. An editor is more than that.

I’ll check how your wording feels. We’ll find and fix awkward phrasing and nail your pacing and flow. When it counts, I’ll help you choose the right word for your message.

I’ll make suggestions, but only as examples. Your voice should come through, not mine.

I’ll tell you what parts really shine. That’s more meaningful than belaboring the weaknesses.

And if your writing is perfect (or perfectly imperfect), I’ll tell you and leave it at that. I don’t need to prove myself by finding mistakes that aren’t there. You only pay for reading time.

Illustration

Conventional advice tells artists to “pick a style.” How boring. How unartistic.

I like to give every project I work on its own personal style.

I’ve done ink work for comics. I’ve done storybook art. I’ve done fine art painting. I’ve even done pixel art and indie game assets.

I’ve been asked to match other styles. I’ve been asked to follow my heart. I’ve even been asked to keep my work unpolished, sketchy, and unfinished.

What matters is YOUR project and what style brings it to life.

Both At Once

Chances are, your project needs both of these.

If you don’t already have an editor and illustrator, you could pay two people. You could go commission an artist who knows nothing about your work. You could go find a separate editor who cares more about finding errors than finding your voice.

Or, you could have one person for both.

Explain your vision just once. Link the messaging in your words to the messaging in your imagery. Get someone who works with your big picture in mind.

When it comes to pricing, simpler is better!

My current hourly rate is just $30/hour for all of the above services and more.

You can tweak and redo the artwork as much as you want. Long novels and short blog posts are both okay here. Special requests are welcome, because I charge by time and effort required.
